Dolphins, often celebrated in folklore and admired for their intelligence, agility, and friendly demeanor, are indeed one of the sea's most fascinating inhabitants. These mammals, belonging ___ the family Delphinidae, navigate the vast expanses of the ocean with a grace and efficiency that has captivated human imagination for centuries. With over 40 species of dolphins discovered to date, they are a testament to the adaptability and diversity of marine life.
One of the most remarkable aspects of dolphins is their sophisticated echolocation ability, which they use to hunt for food and navigate through murky waters. This biological sonar enables dolphins to emit sound waves that bounce off objects, allowing them to "see" their surroundings through sound. This skill is not just a testament to their intelligence but also a critical adaptation for survival in the diverse and sometimes challenging environments they inhabit.
Dolphins are also known for their complex social structures. They live in pods, which can vary in size from a few individuals to over a thousand, depending on the species and environment. These social units are crucial for their survival, aiding in hunting, raising young, and protecting each other from predators. The intricate social behaviors observed in dolphins, including cooperation, altruism, and even grieving, reflect a level of social intelligence that is rare in the animal kingdom.
The relationship between dolphins and the sea is symbiotic and essential. The sea provides a habitat rich in resources, enabling dolphins to thrive. In return, dolphins play a significant role in the marine ecosystem. As apex predators, they help maintain the balance of marine life by controlling fish populations, which can contribute to the health of coral reefs and other marine habitats. Furthermore, dolphins are indicators of ocean health, with their presence or absence often signaling shifts in environmental conditions.
Despite their significance, dolphins face numerous threats from human activities, including pollution, climate change, and entanglement in fishing gear. Conservation efforts are essential to ensure that dolphins continue to flourish in the oceans. Protected marine areas, sustainable fishing practices, and ongoing research and education are critical components of these efforts.
In conclusion, dolphins are not just captivating creatures of the sea; they are pivotal to the marine ecosystem's health and diversity. Their intelligence, social complexity, and symbiotic relationship with the ocean make them a subject of endless fascination and an important focus for conservation. As we continue to unravel the mysteries of these extraordinary animals, it is imperative that we also take steps to protect them and the vibrant habitat they call home.

Renewable energy is the future, and future is finally here. Global investment in renewable energy shot up last year, far outstripping investment in fossil fuels, according to a UN report. As the price of clean energy technology plummets, it has become an increasingly attractive prospect for world governments. China was by far the world’s largest investor in renewable energy in 2017, accounting for nearly half of the new infrastructure commissioned. This was mainly a result of its massive support for solar power, which globally attracted nearly a fifth more investment than in the previous year. Other countries including Australia, Sweden and Mexico more than doubled the amount of money they pumped into clean energy projects. "Yet again, this was a record year for new renewable power capacity being financed,” Francoise d’Estais from UN Environment’s energy and climate branch told The Independent. “We had a record 157 gigawatts commissioned last year, far outstripping the fossil fuel generating capacity, which we estimated as 70 gigawatts.” In just over a decade, concerted investment has increased the proportion of world electricity generated by wind, solar and other renewable sources from around 5 per cent to 12 per cent. “The electricity sector remains the brightest spot for renewables with the exponential growth of solar photovoltaics and wind in recent years, and building on the significant contribution of hydropower generation.” But, electricity accounts for only a fifth of global energy consumption, and the role of renewables in the transportation and heating sectors remains ____(A)____ to the energy transition. The global replacement of traditional fuels with renewables led to around 1.8 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide emissions being avoided last year – the equivalent of removing the entire US transport system. According to the Wind and Solar Atlas, there are opportunities and potential for Wind and Solar plants in the East and West Nile areas that will produce around 31,150 MW from wind and 52,300 MW from solar. Egypt is also considering financing options to conduct feasibility studies for building the world largest solar power plant for both electricity generation and water desalination.
The UK has been performing well in clean energy generation, with recent figures showing wind and solar sources had overtaken nuclear as suppliers of electricity. However, despite these positive trends, 2017 saw a big drop of 65 per cent in British renewables investment. Experts have criticised the withdrawal of UK support for onshore wind, as previous analysis has demonstrated it already has the capacity to outcompete fossil fuels as a power source. As renewable energy prices continue to fall, however, Professor Moslener said government subsidies are likely to become less and less important.
(I) Overall increase in the global temperature.
(II) Carbon dioxide emissions were reduced to a considerable amount.
(III) Nile being converted into a biodiversity hotspot.

Was the painting stolen by the thief?
Read the passage and answer the following questions. Mike and Morris lived in the same village.
While Morris owned the largest jewelry shop in the village, Mike was a poor farmer. Both had large families with many sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. One fine day, Mike, tired of not being able to feed his family, decided to leave the village and move to the city where he was certain to earn enough to feed everyone. Along with his family, he left the village for the city. At night, they stopped under a large tree. There was a stream running nearby where they could freshen up themselves. He told his sons to clear the area below the tree. They didn’t know that in the branches of the tree, there was a thief hiding. He watched as Mike’s family worked together and also noticed that they had nothing to cook. Mike’s wife also thought the same and asked her husband ” Everything is ready but what shall we eat?”. Mike raised his hands to heaven and said ” Don’t worry. He is watching all of this from above. He will help us.”
The thief got worried as he had seen that the family was large and worked well together. Taking advantage of the fact that they did not know he was hiding in the branches, he decided to make a quick escape. But, he left behind the bundle of stolen jewels and money which dropped into Mike’s lap. Mike opened it and jumped with joy when he saw the contents. The family gathered all their belongings and returned to the village. There was great excitement when they told everyone how they got rich. Morris thought that the tree was miraculous and this was a nice and quick way to earn some money. He ordered his family to pack some clothes and they set off as if on a journey. They also stopped under the same tree and Morris started commanding everyone as Mike had done. Being a rich family, they were used to having servants all around. So, the one who went to the river to fetch water enjoyed a nice bath. The one who went to get wood for fire went off to sleep. Morris’s wife said ” Everything is ready but what shall we eat?” Morris raised his hands and said, ”Don’t worry. He is watching all of this from above. He will help us.”
As soon as he finished saying, the thief jumped down from the tree with a knife in hand. Seeing him, everyone started running around to save their lives. The thief stole everything they had and Morris and his family had to return to the village empty-handed, having lost all their valuables that they had taken with them.

Four sentences are given, out of which three have spelling errors. Choose the sentence with all correctly spelt words.
Screaming is a unique noise. Research suggests when we scream in fear, the noise serves the dual purpose of sharpening our own focus in the face of a threat as well as of warning others. In fact, our brains process screams in a unique way. Most noises we hear are delivered from our ear to an area of the brain devoted to analyzing a sound and breaking it into its component parts, such as gender, age, and tone; high or low; a brass, stringed or electric instrument — or several combined; a ribbit or a coo, and what animal makes that sound. This indicates that we differentiate all the noises we hear everyday, even subconsciously. A scream is different though, according to David Poepple, PhD, a professor of psychology and neural science at New York University. Poepple is the lead author of a 2015 study that looked into what happens in the body when people scream in fear. A scream goes straight from the ear to the amygdala, the part of the brain that processes fear and kickstarts the body’s fight-or-flight response. The sound jolts our brains into increased alertness and analysis. This is especially true for screams when we’re scared. These have a unique sound signature encompassed by the term “roughness.” This roughness is what serves to alert others to danger. Humans and other animals scream for many reasons — in joy, in surprise, in fear. But we’ve evolved to be able to produce different shrieks and to be able to discern the difference when we hear them. (Incidentally, roughness is also why we find the sound of a baby crying and fingernails on chalkboards disturbing; both sounds have high roughness.) If we focus on the sounds that gain our attention, we will be able to tell which one is rough and which is not. But what about people who have the opposite reaction when they’re scared? What about the people who don’t scream in fear, but become speechless in the face of a threat? This has been less studied, but it’s likely a part of the third, overlooked response to terror: paralysis. Contrary to pop medicine, fight and flight aren’t the only two reactions to something scary. Humans, like other animals, also evolved the option to freeze, or “play dead” in the face of a threat. This happens involuntarily, when the cerebellum, the part of the brain that regulates muscle activity, overpowers other terrified brain responses and basically shuts down all movement. Since screaming takes quite a few muscles (probably a little less than the 100 used for speaking), a person frozen in fear is rendered mute as well as immobile.
